Serious side effects

Framed warning

Trintellix has a boxed warning. A framed warning is a serious warning from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior. Although rare, it is possible for antidepressants such as Trintellix to cause suicidal thoughts or behavior in people between the ages of 18 and 24. (Trintellix is ​​not recommended for use in children at this time.)

Before you start taking Trintellix, tell your doctor if you have a history of depression or suicidal thoughts or behaviors. They may monitor you more often for mood changes, especially when you start taking Trintellix or change your dosage.

While you are taking Trintellix, your family or friends should also watch for mood changes or suicidal thoughts or behavior. They should tell you and your doctor about any changes they notice as soon as possible.

If you have suicidal thoughts or behavior while taking Trintellix, tell your doctor straight away. They may recommend changing your medications.

SUICIDE PREVENTION

If you think someone is at immediate risk of harming themselves or another person:

  • Stay with the person until help arrives.
  • Remove any guns, knives, drugs, or other objects that could cause damage.

Sexual side effects

Sexual side effects often occur when taking antidepressants such as Trintellix, and they can affect both men and women.*

If you develop any sexual side effects from taking Trintellix, talk to your doctor. They may be able to recommend treatment options to decrease your sexual side effects.

Nausea and vomiting

You may have nausea and vomiting while taking Trintellix. In studiesboth of these side effects occurred frequently in people taking the drug.

What might help

Some side effects may get better as you continue to take Trintellix. For example, in studies of this drug, the nausea usually lasted about 2 weeks. But in some people, this side effect lasted longer.

If you experience nausea or vomiting while taking Trintellix, tell your doctor. They may be able to recommend ways to relieve these side effects. Your doctor may even recommend that you take another medication to avoid these side effects.

Allergic reaction

Some people may have an allergic reaction to Trintellix.

Symptoms of a mild allergic reaction may include:

A more serious allergic reaction is rare but possible. Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction can include swelling under the skin, usually on the eyelids, lips, hands or feet. They can also include swelling of the tongue, mouth, or throat, which can lead to difficulty breathing.

Call your doctor right away if you have an allergic reaction to Trintellix. But if you think you have a medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.
