Semper Health improved medication adherence by 25% for diabetic patients prescribed medication by Sanofi

Collaboration supports companies’ common focus on medication adherence and affordability

SAN FRANCISCO, April 13, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Semper Health announced compelling results achieved in the first year of its collaboration with Sanofi (Nasdaq: SNY), an innovative global healthcare company. The results from this collaboration have already led health plans to expand their Semper programs for 2022-2023.

The first year of collaboration between Sanofi and Semper Health has dramatically improved patient outcomes. In a program analysis, Semper interventions resulted in a 25% increase in the proportion of days covered, the widely used benchmark measure of medication adherence. On average, during their first year in the program, Semper patients refilled three more prescriptions than patients in the comparable non-Semper cohort. These results demonstrate the value proposition of the Semper Health platform.

Thanks to Semper Health’s collaboration with Sanofi, eligible patients on Lantus® (insulin glargine injection), Toujeo® (insulin glargine injection) and Soliqua® 100/33 (insulin glargine and lixisenatide injection) were able to use the Semper platform.

“Our collaboration with Semper Health is an important part of Sanofi’s ongoing commitment to serving the needs of the diabetes community worldwide,” said chris boulton, vice president, head of diabetes in the United States at Sanofi. “Sanofi is continuously focused on focused efforts to provide the best treatment options and innovative strategies to help patients effectively manage their diabetes. I look forward to seeing this collaboration continue, which is helping to expand access to our medicines for those who depend on them.”

Unlike traditional coupons, which work without payer involvement and provide patients with one-size-fits-all static discounts, Semper Health allows payers to activate point-of-sale discounts for their members to whom specific medications for chronic diseases have been prescribed. By offering patients the opportunity to earn increasing discounts when they stick with their medications, Semper enables patients to share in the savings their responsible healthcare decisions generate for insurers, healthcare providers and pharmaceutical companies. The savings on the Semper program are significant – the program reduces a patient’s out-of-pocket expenses on their eligible medications by up to 60%.

“Dynamic pricing has forever changed the landscape of medication adherence and affordability. Pharmaceutical companies are now able to work in alignment with insurance companies that reimburse medications, reducing the burden on patients with high out-of-pocket costs and encouraging them to take their medications as prescribed,” said Anurati Mathur, CEO of Semper Health. “We are thrilled to see the significant results achieved by patients with diabetes, a disease that affects more than 34 million Americans, through our collaboration with Sanofi.”

The high cost of medications is one of the main reasons why about half of all Americans with chronic conditions do not take their medications as prescribed.1, according to the Center for Disease Control. Semper’s dynamic discounts, combined with SMS engagement, promote drug affordability and access for patients who need it most.

“This program has saved me a lot of money, and as a retiree, that means more than most people realize. It’s nice to see a pharmaceutical company working with insurance to make drugs more affordable necessities,” said Vaux Adams, 59, a patient with Armada, Mich..

James Andersona 50-year-old patient from South Elbow, Indiananoted, “In the past, I had to go without my medication because it was too expensive. Now I don’t have to choose between rent and medicine, now I can afford both.
