Ōmcare achieves dose-level medication adherence and creates a new revenue model for elderly care

MINNEAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Ōmcare has successfully concluded its initial pilot project in partnership with Ecumen and Thrifty White Pharmacy to test its first product, the Ōmcare Home Health Hub.

The Hub is an all-in-one home telehealth solution that enables remote care and ensures medication adherence at the dose level. It stores up to 30 days worth of medication in multi-dose sachets that work in tandem with a video portal, providing visual confirmation that loved ones are taking the right medication at the right time.

Thrifty White Pharmacy provided each participant with an easy-to-load packaged medicine home delivery service. Then, during the 3-month pilot project, participants – who were taking at least 4 medications a day – received calls to their hub from an Ecumen staff member when it was time to take their medication.

The pilot project aimed to measure three key metrics:

  • Assess medication adherence among participants

  • Examine patient and caregiver satisfaction

  • Compare operations and costs between remote medication assistance via Ōmcare Home Health Center and traditional medical pass

“This innovation piqued our interest because we saw it as a way to help seniors live independently longer,” said Shelley Kendrick, president and CEO of Ecumen, a nonprofit provider , developer and operator of living spaces and services for the elderly. “As we look to find ways to serve people wherever they call home, medication management solutions like this are essential.”

Overall, the pilot project successfully demonstrated improvements in all three areas. With 780 calls, lasting an average of three minutes, the results showed:

  • Participants had 98% dose level adherence

  • The drug assistance service via the Hub is 85% more efficient than the door med pass

  • 100% of participants strongly agree that Ōmcare helps them remember to take their medication

  • 100% of participants agree they are more likely to take their medications with Ōmcare.

“We are grateful to Ecumen and Thrifty White Pharmacy for their commitment and outstanding performance in our pilot project,” said Lisa Lavin, Managing Director. “Both organizations continue to innovate to improve health, reduce costs, and improve the patient and provider experience.”

Ōmcare is growing for commercialization in early 2023 and is actively seeking senior care partners who want to expand their services through technology.
